30 oktober Fall FragmentsDriving down Boyer, coming to a stop at the big roundabout - the leaves are gold and red in the trees and on the ground. A long line of boys in blue football uniforms make their way through the crosswalk like a line of ducks. The boys must be the junior varsity team, they still look like kids. It's so autumnal - like a moment in a movie montage to indicate seasons passing.
Season 1 of Friday Night Lights was such a pleasure to watch. Great writing, compelling characters - but so far, Season 2 has broken my heart. Sigh.
I might as well make The Knot my homepage because I'm spending far too much time on their site. I really wish they would improve their page load time. I guess the site is photo heavy, but sheesh, when you're browsing pages and pages of wedding gowns, those extra seconds pile up.
I bought a big red bow to tie around Bo's neck for a family Christmas photo. This idea pleases me greatly.
My car's windshield wipers are getting fixed! They won't turn off on their own, and I spent an annoying Winter '06 turning my car off at stop lights to get the windshield wipers to shut down. It's going to cost 183 dollars, but after thinking about another winter of that shit, I decided that it would be worth every penny.
Should I try yoga? Or join the Y? I'm lazy and I should do some exercise.
I'm intrigued by the idea of going curling. The local curling club has an afternoon of open play/instruction on Dec. 1st.
Today, at the grocery store, I went to the freezer section to pick up my usual Fudgesicles. And what I saw next to the Fudgesicles was so awesome and shocking that I actually said "Oh HELL YES" out loud. My friends, after many many years of waiting, the ice cream novelty people made my dream come true. They brought back the pudding pop. I LOVE pudding pops and they stopped making them years ago but finally someone got smart and brought them back! Finally! Oh. According to Wikipedia and other sources, they have been back since 2004. I find that very hard to believe as I have spent plenty o' time in the frozen treats section of a variety of stores and have seen nary a pudding pop. Maybe they just started distributing them more widely? All I know is that it's nice when a normal day contains a delightful surprise. I had a swirl pudding pop tonight and, I'm not gonna lie to you, it was like coming home. 02 oktober Mail OrderOctober 1st must be the official opening day of the free-for-all that is holiday mail order catalogs. In the past two days, I have received no fewer than 6 catalogs. Macys, 2 different Crate & Barrel catalogs (2007 Bestsellers and Everyday Best Buys), Lillian Vernon, something called Driving Comfort (featuring random car products such as an electrical traveling blanket and oriental carpet styled floor mats) and Personal Creations (for those of you who want to get a jump start on the myriad variations on the personalized Christmas ornament! There is even one that is an "expecting" couple with a little ? on the Mama's belly - woulda been a terrific gift idea if the babies weren't already here by Xmas). I receive catalogs year round from the major merchandisers like Crate & Barrel, Nordstrom's and Urban Outfitters. But I love when the holiday season rolls around and I start getting the random and obscure catalogs. It's like Sky Mall delivered to my door! I like to look at these catalogs and think about things like a) Who is buying this stuff? Often, these items give me some kind of insight into middle America and why Bush is president, b) Who came up with this crazy idea? How did they manage to be dumb enough to have that idea but smart enough to actually get it out there on the market? c) I wonder who is responsible for writing this ad copy? Some poor soul who majored in Medieval Literature and is now stuck thinking of witty puns all day long? d) I don't think I've ever purchased an item from a catalog in my entire life - that's what the Internet is for! How do the catalogs without Internet sites fare year over year through the 90s until now? How can they stay in business? Hours of entertainment! Anyway, I hereby announce that CHRISTMAS IS UPON US. Even though it is only October. |
